Served as a team leader and group facilitator for the inaugural, five-day immersive PIVOT program, hosted through the Nelson Leadership Institute (NLI) to explore the formative “bonds” of life that make individuals and groups successful. Participants were challenged both mentally and physically to explore these bonds, while guiding them to capitalize on their strengths. The mission of the Nelson Leadership Institute is to empower, develop and affirm undergraduates as they become ethical mission-driven leaders of influence. The program focused on how small changes (pivots) can result in maximum impact in the lives of participants. In the role as a facilitator, I served as a peer-to-peer mentor for 10 undergraduates from across the country, a role that continues over an 18-24 month period following the conclusion of the program.

As an attendee at the 27th annual S.T.A.F.F. conference, I participated in sessions to expand and develop annual fund raising efforts, sharing my experiences in the field, and interfacing with other professionals to expand my development network.

The ALA is a week-long leadership workshop that brings together accomplished business and industry leaders with undergraduates for personal and professional presentations, workshops, and small-group discussions. The topics covered range from negotiation, leadership qualities and development, success, professional etiquette and behavior, and management operations and development topics. The goal is to give students a vision of what they could become, as well as the tools to achieve their goals. ALA graduates leave the week with clearer values and goals, greater confidence in pursuing leadership positions, and with several new mentor contacts to help them succeed. The speakers also benefit from these interactions by sharing their wisdom and by learning more about the challenges facing younger generations.

The Gettysburg Leadership Experience uses a variety of uniquely tailored, core learning modules with action-oriented case studies to engage the participants in the experience. The conference, which took place over two days, included a day-long interactive tour of the battlefield during which we will explored and analyze the Battle of Gettysburg with a particular focus on the considerations and decisions of the leaders involved in the Battle. On the second day, we spent time discussing the lessons and concepts we learned the previous day and developed personalized leadership strategies based off of those learning opportunities.

The Woodrow Wilson Leadership School (WWLS) is conference held in odd-numbered years, and offers and opportunity for hands-on chapter officer training and development. The conference provides participants with a stronger understanding of chapter operations and best practices. The curriculum for the week featured dynamic speakers, highlighted by two eloquent keynote speeches by David McDonald Beloit '82, who challenged the undergraduates in attendance to be leaders on campus, not necessarily through what is socially normal, but what is excellent. His speeches set the tone for a week filled with breakouts and small-group meetings where the concepts of teamwork, integrity and gentlemanly conduct all were hot-button issues that challenged each attendee to be a stronger representative of their school and community.
