LANCASTER, Pa. – Franklin & Marshall used an eight-goal second quarter to erase a 5-4 deficit and downed Kenyon 15-8 in men's lacrosse action Wednesday evening. The Diplomats picked up their first win of the season and improved to 1-1 while the Lords dropped to 2-1.
Chad Gamble put the Diplomats on the board first with an unassisted tally 35 seconds into the game before the Lords netted two straight and took a 2-1 lead at 11:26. Will Ballantyne tied the contest at 2-2 beforeMichael Bossidy scored two for a 4-2 F&M advantage. Mike Rama fed Bossidy on the first goal and Sean Rogers picked up the assist on the second. Kenyon answered with three straight to end first and took a 5-4 lead heading into the second.
The Diplomats shifted into another gear in the second and went on a 10-0 run that spanned into the fourth quarter as F&M held the Lords scoreless for over 35 minutes of action.
Gamble started the run at 14:13 and Rogers' score at 13:33 gave the Diplomats the lead for good. Teddy Bossidy picked up a pair of unassisted goals to make it 8-5 and Ballantyne found twine at 5:43 for a 9-5 F&M lead. Ben Ross found Michael Bossidy at 4:11 before Bossidy returned the favor with a feed to Ross with 46 seconds left in the half to make it 11-5. Rogers struck again unassisted 30 seconds later for a 12-5 halftime score.
F&M went up 13-5 midway through the third when Chad Gamble fed Michael Bossidy at 6:35 and Vann Jorgensen finished off the run with an unassisted goal thirty seconds later.
The Lords picked up two goals to start the fourth and came within seven, 14-7, before Jack Gladstone scored a 2:49. J.T. Meyer scored the last score at 2:06 for the Lords to make it 15-8.
Michael Bossidy finished with four goals and an assist while Rogers, Teddy Bossidy, Chad Gamble and Will Ballantyne all netted two goals for the Diplomats. Alex Lopez paced the Lords with three goals and Robert Jacobs finished with a pair.
Mike Sanzone went 12-for-20 from the X and had a team-high six ground balls and Nicholas Zenobio caused four turnovers and collected four ground balls.
Timothy Mattessich turned away seven shots and allowed five goals in 45 minutes of action and improved to 1-1 this season while Patrick Shevelson took the loss with 10 saves.
The Diplomats outshot Kenyon 49-40 and held a 47-22 advantage in shots during the first three quarters.
F&M returns to action on Saturday when the Diplomats travel to No. 11 Washington & Lee for a 3:oo p.m. contest on Wilson Field.
